Triton - The platform system that halves the cost of installed tidal energy capture
Triton provides highly cost effective deployment and operation for horizontal axis tidal turbines. The platform is adaptable and a number of alternative turbines can be used; the Triton platform system providing the installation and maintenance base that will reduce costs and enable safe operating conditions.
The Triton system has turbines mounted on semi-submersible spar buoys secured to a seabed anchorage by a rigid swing-arm tether. This gives a platform that can be towed to the site already assembled, then deployed to its operating position by simply water ballasting.
By de-ballasting, the system can be brought to the surface when required for annual maintenance – eg for defouling – or repair.
The Triton 3 platform is likely to be the first to be built at full scale at a 3MW rating.

Triton 3 (2-5MW output) suitable for 35 to 55m deep water
Simulation of full size Triton 6 (6 to 10MW output ) for 60 to 90m depths, shown deployed in a 60m deep coastal water site. Triton is pictured in the generating mode in the foreground, and maintenance mode in the background
